Devlog 2: Digging in

Over the past two weeks I've been researching platforms and rogue-lite games. There is a lot I would love to do with this game that will, unfortunately, be behind my ability to program, but I will get the ideas down here.

Another thing I looked into was "Pokémon sleep" which could, I thought, have game mechanics that I could incorporate into my game. The first hurdle was the fact that it wanted to record me while I was sleeping, which I find creepy as hell. Even for such a cutesy game, the idea that they would listen in and watch me while I slept was.... Disturbing.

So, of course, I want to incorporate that into my horror game. Even if I don't actually use the mechanic I could pretend to, asking for permission to watch them while they sleep....

The other mechanic would be a daily dream journal - which would look through the journal entries for key words, or would ask them to pick out at least three hashtags or key symbols to represent their dream. If they had no dream at all, the level will either be a premade one or a random ones depending on where they are in the game.

Now, as for the layers and levels throughout the game... I was thinking of having a story about a character who is "awake" and moves through the real world but uses the dream energy (gained from sleeping in reality) to step back into the dream world. In the dream world you can use abilities like doubl jump and dash to find dream fragments.

Again look into games like soul reaver 2 and other platforms like original and the blind forest and hollow knight.
