Devlog Day 1

My initial post wasnt saved in the Devlog - still learning how this ITCH.io place works, but I'm getting there.

Mostly, I'm focusing on the game design aspect of this game. Genuinely, I would like this to work, I just need to focus on it.

Today I worked on the concept of making ht game a mobile game that allows you to play in a dream state until you unlock a new sigil or dream fragment. Then the player has to stop playing, go away for at least eight hours, have a dream, and then play again. When they start again they have to answer a couple of questions about their latest or their most memorable nightmare. Each time they do, they fill out a piece of their dream journal, giving them some fragments and sigils to unlock parts of the game. The description of the nightmare, however, begins to shape the style of the game. Of course they will still have platforming puzzles, jumping and dashing and so on, but the nature of the threat in the nightmares and the type of platfrom levels will change according to what they are dreaming, making each run through of the game unique.

The journal will also be fully customiseablem with notes, stickers, hand drawn images, and so on that will slowly begin to fill up the journal as they player plays, explaining not only the powers that they unloick, but also the nature of the nightmares and, eventually, the source of the nightmares themselves. A story will slowly unveil itself as the player tries to track down and tether - or trap - the dreamwaver demon that has been plaguing their nightmares. Of course, I would like to make it as surreal and nightmarish as possible, and platform games, along with game logic, will allow me to do that.

I will have to think a bit more on the mechanics of the platformer, how the player can do things while awake but only do other things, like use double jump or fly while asleep...taht sort of thing.

I'll work on it.

More later.

Time to sleep.
